Description : Travels with a Donkey and Other Tales is one more classic book of short stories from Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson, whose earlier classics such as Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde have been great successes. Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes, the title story is the author’s earliest published works and is regarded as a pioneering classic of outdoor literature or a travelogue. This was written when the author was in his late 20’s, still dependent on his parents for support and was undertaken to raise money and at the same time to be with the woman he loved, and provide the adventure he craved. This travelogue narrates the author’s 12-day, 120-mile solo hiking journey through the sparsely populated and impoverished areas of the Cévennes Mountains in south-central France in 1878. The other stories included in the book are The Master of Bellantrae and Weir of Hermiston, which are equally good, depicting the author’s unique style of story-telling. A wonderful book for short story fans!
