Description : A moral fantasy classic, The Picture of Dorian Gray, is a tale of an archetypal model or a young man who pledges his soul if only the painting could display the burden of his age and infamy, and not himself. This classic begins, when the artist, Basil Hallward, has just finished his latest painting, a portrait of Dorian Gray, an extraordinarily beautiful young man. In due course, in the company of Lord Henry, an amoral person, Gray is told about transient nature of beauty and youth. Over a period of time, Dorian abandons ethical restraints and sees life in terms of pleasure and sensuality, while those effects are mirrored on the portrait. Finally, Gray repents, stabs the portrait, though in reality, the portrait looks young, but Gray is dead with a knife in his chest. The only novel written by Irish writer, Oscar Wilde remains a literary masterpiece even today.
