Description : No doubt about it, Our Kid was “late for school again.” No homework, no uniform, and sooooo, “his teacher sent him straight to the Naughty Corner.” Our Kid couldn’t understand what the fuss was all about because he had “shoffled that homework” into his bag and did hoof it off directly to school. Well, sort of because when that “submarine splooshed up out of the waves and squeaked across the sand” Our Kid had to stop and watch. Then he had to check out all the passengers Captain Mackerel had on board. Of course everyone knows how that sort of thing happens, especially when those fish “were chasing pirates!” Those pirates just happened to be dinopirates and “some were squiddly, but others were felumpingly big.” Oh, and that’s how the homework and uniform got sniched when one of those dinopirates took it. At any rate, Our Kid had no homework and no uniform. “Why so glumbumtious, little goat?” asked the elephant. Just maybe that elephant would take Our Kid to school and that’s exactly what he did! He got into the elephant’s basket and off they went “over the craggly mountains and across the wide blue water.” Oh, but then there were those snapping, snarking sharks! Would Our Kid ever make it to school? What on Earth was he going to tell his teacher when he got there without his homework and uniform? This is an uproariously humorous tale about Our Kid, who is in “felumpingly big trouble!” Of course there are plenty of kids who have big imaginations, but Our Kid has a huge one. There’s a twist at the end that got me to chuckling big time, but then again, I was already giggling throughout the book. Tony Ross, who also illustrated this book, has a great imagination himself. He’s the author of “The Little Princess” series, one I also love. If Your Kid has a big imagination, you’re going to definitely adore Our Kid! This is the perfect tale for circle or storytime ... or anytime for that matter.
