Description : Paulo Coelho’s complete HarperCollins paperback collection in one sleek boxed set. Includes thirteen books: 1) The Alchemist This is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who dreams of travelling the world in search of a worldly treasure as fabulous as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers, and from there into the Egyptian desert, where a fateful encounter with the alchemist awaits him. With Paulo Coelho's visionary blend of spirituality, magical realism and folklore, The Alchemist is a story with the power to inspire nations and change people's lives. 2) The Pilgrimage The Pilgrimage by Paulo Coelho is a parable from 1987 that delves into self-exploration and finding one's true path. The story begins in 1986, when the author fails his initiation into the order Regnus Agnus Mundi (RAM). He is informed that in order to get accepted into RAM, he must embark upon a spiritual journey along the Way of St. James in search of a sword, which symbolically will mark his acceptance into the order. On the legendary road across Spain, the author learns that sometimes the most extraordinary, can be found in the simplest of things. The Pilgrimage has been translated to thirty eight languages all over the world and was originally titled 'O Diario de Um Mago', meaning Diary of A Mage. 3) The Valkyries The Valkyries is an autobiographical tale of Paulo Coelho’s journey to the Mojave Desert to meet the legendary group The Valkyries, told in a third person. It is a story about the author’s spiritual journey to try and eliminate the negativity of his own past while following the voice of his spiritual leader. It is the English version of the Portuguese original ‘As Valkírias’ by Paulo himself and despite being a translation, the novel holds up just as nobly as the original in terms of passing inspiring messages and walking us through sweeping visuals. It also contains supernatural and magical elements that draw the book towards the fantasy realm. 4) Brida Brida is the tale of a young Irish woman who is on a quest to understand the deeper mysteries of life. Brida has always been interested in magic and wants to learn more about being a witch. Her quest leads her into strange places and encounters with many interesting characters who help her find the answers she is seeking. As she makes new discoveries and learns about souls and soul mates, she begins to question the values and relationships she developed in her old life before she met her teachers. She then has to resolve her new faith with her relationships and find a balance between the two. Key Features: The book conveys the idea that love is a liberating emotion and it is to be valued and cherished on the path to wisdom. 5) Warrior of the Light Manual of the Warrior of Light is an accumulation of the teachings of Paulo Coelho compiled in a single volume. This book possesses proverbs, religious texts from the Bible, texts from Tao Te Ching, words of Chuang Tzu and other texts from various sources. These contents are penned down in the manner of short philosophical lines. Key Features: This book is a compilation of Paulo Coelho's teachings. It was first released in the year 1997. It comes along with proverbs and lines from religious and philosophical texts. 6) Veronika Decides to Die Veronika Decides to Die is a beautiful tale of hope and happiness. The story revolves around Veronika, a young Slovenian woman who has everything that a woman in the prime of her life would want. She has a good job, a string of boyfriends and a family that loves her. However, she is not happy with her life and decides to commit suicide. After taking sleeping pills, she awaits her death which does not arrive. She wakes up in a hospital where she is told that the pills have shortened her life span and that she has only a few days to live. Within the walls of a mental hospital, Veronika falls in love with a person suffering from schizophrenia. The head psychiatrist at the hospital is trying to perform an experiment, which concerns Veronika in some manner. How and why is this happening? That is what the story is about. 7) Eleven Minutes ‘Eleven minutes’ is the masterpiece of Brazilian bestselling author Paulo Coelho. This novel is based on a fictional account of a woman named Maria who lives in Rio, but moves to Geneva. She is poor and has to do menial jobs to survive in Geneva. Fate led her to be a prostitute. She has accepted her life in this way and keeps on going with it displaying great strength. It is during one of her walks down a street that she feels a sexual awakening inside her. The quest for physical pleasure leads her into some interesting situations, where she tries to find her own body and desires. While she is living a life of a prostitute, trying to understand herself sexually, she comes across a man. She crosses paths with a young painter. She is instantly smitten by his charm and he is captivated by Maria too. There is a chance that she might fall in love. At this strange time, love has found her door, will she let it in? Or will it be another sexual adventure for her? 8) The Fifth Mountain Based on the biblical figure prophet Elijah, the novel The Fifth Mountain narrates the life of the young prophet and his struggles with God. Stuck having to choose from his love and sense of duty, the story speaks about how he gets over his difficulties and follows his destiny. The author, through this book, passes on the message that there is a purpose behind every soul's existence and he guides the reader to learn a number of useful lessons that man has to learn from his life. Key Features: This book has a ranking of four in the Religious and Spiritual Fiction category. 9) The Devil and Miss Prym A stranger arrives in a remote mountain village, searching for the answer to a question that torments him: are human beings, in essence, good or evil? A community devoured by greed, cowardice and fear. A man persecuted by the ghosts of his painful past. A young woman searching for happiness. In one eventful week, each of them will face questions of life, death and power, and each of them will have to choose their own path. Will they choose good or evil? The remote village of Viscos is the setting for this extraordinary struggle. A stranger arrives, carrying with him a backpack containing a notebook and eleven gold bars. In welcoming the mysterious foreigner, the whole village becomes an accomplice to his sophisticated plot, which will forever mark their lives. 10) The Witch of Portobello Paulo Coelho, one of the world's best loved storytellers, is back with a riveting new novel set in London. This is the story of Athena, or Sherine, to give her the name she was baptised with. Her life is pieced together through a series of recorded interviews with those people who knew her well or hardly at all – parents, colleagues, teachers, friends, acquaintances, her ex-husband. The novel unravels Athena's mysterious beginnings, via an orphanage in Romania, to a childhood in Beirut. When war breaks out, her adoptive family move with her to London, where a dramatic turn of events occurs…Athena, who has been dubbed 'the Witch of Portobello' for her seeming powers of prophecy, disappears dramatically, leaving those who knew her to solve the mystery of her life and abrupt departure. Like The Alchemist, The Witch of Portobello is the kind of story that will transform the way readers think about love, passion, joy and sacrifice. 11) The Zahir The book is about a pilgrimage. It deals with the themes of love, obsession and loss. This book is considered to be a follow-on to the author's earlier book The Alchemist. The meaning of the title, The Zahir, is "the obvious." A bestselling novelist lost his wife Esther. Although he enjoys the luxury brought to him by money and fame, he is unsatisfied due to his missing wife and goes on a search for her. Meanwhile, the police suspects his hand in the disappearance of his wife. Amidst the chaos, the narrator looks back at his own life to examine what went wrong that made his wife disappear. During a book launch, he encounters Esther's friend Mikhail. From him, the narrator learns that Esther left him in search of peace as she could not find it with him. Knowing that his wife left him in search of finding peace, the narrator realises that in order to find his wife and get back to her, he must search for his own self. So, the narrator starts his pilgrimage on the quest of finding himself. 12) The Winner Stands Alone The story revolves around Igor, a psychotic Russian executive with a palatial mansion and his own private jet, who comes to Cannes in search of his wife Ewa. Ewa has run away with Hamid, an Arabian designer who is also filthy rich. Igor tries to catch the attention of Ewa by informing her on her cell phone that he will simply go on killing innocent people unless she decides to meet him. And kill, he does. He goes on killing unwitting shop vendors using the Russian art of Sambo, manages to kill a director at the film festival by stabbing her, murders an important film distributor using a curare-soaked needle and so on. Through these murders, he interacts with each of his victims and thus Coelho takes us into the world of glamour and fashion where people soaked in vanity walk and talk about like pre-processed dolls. The novel leaves us thinking and questioning the world we are actually living in. 13) By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept The title of this novel is taken from an incipit available in the bible. It is a story that is basically about love but has various rituals from paganism. It is a book that informs readers about female divinity. The book tells the story of Pilar, an independent young woman who becomes frustrated with the daily grind of university life and sets out on a journey to look for the meaning of life. Pilar meets a friend, who happens to be her childhood sweetheart but is now a spiritual leader, healer and miracle worker. Soon they go on a journey together, through the French Pyrenees in their search for the true meaning of life. The story continues in a small village near the River Piedra, where the adolescent love between Pilar and her childhood friend blooms once again.
